April Connors figured her love life was on hold indefinitely now that she was about to have a baby while temporarily staying at her grandmother’s house (what a turn-on!). Meeting infamous country singer Jimmy Wick may have made her giant belly flip, but she was filing him under a big “as if.” No man in his right mind would fall for a gal this pregnant, and besides, she needed to focus on herself and the baby. James Warwick (a.k.a. Jimmy Wick) was not in his right mind. His ex-wife was petitioning for full custody of the only thing that made him happy besides playing music, his four-year-old princess, Summer, and the thought of losing her had him crazier than an outhouse rat. His saving grace was his new ‘friend’ April who he was falling head over heels for. The only problem was, April had just been knocked up, dumped and stranded by the last guy she was with and was in no mood to go down that road again. She was hellbent on getting her life back on track just as James was watching his fall apart, leaving them both caught off guard by the unstoppable romance that would sweep them off their feet.

The Cowboy Singer eBook Paula Tiberius

I don't normally read romance novels, but I was looking for something quick between heavy book-club books -- and I loved this one! It was so much better than the last Harlequin I remember reading (long before the book club!) The characters are really believable and I cared about them. The relationships are so realistic and warm; it's sexy AND it gives you a good feeling about human beings at the same time.

The Cowboy Singer eBook Paula Tiberius Reviews

An aspiring actress' career is cut short before she hits it big when she finds herself pregnant and moves home to Austin in Paula Tiberius' The Cowboy Singer.

After April Connors' boyfriend leaves her when she is six months pregnant, she moves in with her grandmother while she awaits the birth of her son. Barely settled, her best friend introduces her to James, the lead singer of Jimmy Wick and the flames, a hot band in country music. James is recently single upon going through a bitter divorce, and still fights with his ex for more custody of their daughter, Summer.

Sparks fly when April and Jimmy meet, though both are hesitant to act on them, figuring they are both damaged goods who need to figure out their lives before delving into a relationship. Still, they embark on a friendship that gives April the support she needs when her son, Avery, is born and when his ex-wife uproots their daughter to move to Orlando.

Eventually, their friendship turns romance and romance to love, while both try to determine their future as a couple.

This was a ridiculously cute book. I took it on a recent vacation with me, and it was the perfect story to read before going to bed at night and at stolen moments during the day. There is a particular moment toward the end of the book involving a cowboy writing a song for his best girl that I quite enjoyed. (I have said it before, and it will probably always be true I am a sucker for a man writing a song for the girl he loves.)

The story, though not completely ground breaking or Earth shattering, was still developed well enough and told well. Tiberius captured the essence of the Austin scene without being weighed down with unimportant details or unrelated plot elements.

As far as characters go, April was likeable enough, but my favorite character by far was the title cowboy singer. At one point, while reading the story, I turned to my mom and said, "I am going to marry a country singer/producer." He makes men look good, by being a hands on father and a positive male influence for April's son. Also, he is just plain adorable and totally crushable.

April's baby daddy and James baby mama are also good secondary characters. Despite being moderate villains in the story, Tiberius also gives them enough development to show that even though they create obstacles for the main characters, they are not evil. They have their own interests they are trying to protect, which does not justify all of their actions, but makes them more human.

Tiberius also sets us up for a potential spin-off with James brother, a hunky rancher looking for love. I know I would not mind wrangling that cowboy, if you know what I mean.

I enjoyed the Cowboy Singer and recommend it for anyone looking for a quick romance that leaves you satisfied.

The Cowboy Singer hooks you from the minute you meet pretty, pregnant and witty April Connors. Escaping from a bad relationship and putting a bright career on hold to become a single mom. The light at the end of the tunnel shines bright when charismatic Jimmy Wick enters the picture. The sparks fly and pregnancy doesn't seem to get in the way of a smoldering attraction. This is a fun, sweet romance elevated by solid writing and clever observations. Will make you procrastinate from whatever it was you had to do before you picked it up.
I really don't know where to begin. I've read a lot of books being a part of a book club for the past several years and a teacher before that. This is one of the best novels I've read in a long time. The characters are well-developed, funny, and just down right endearing. The story is captivating and beautiful in its simplicity as well as in its complexity as they deal with real adult issues. I explained some of the book to my husband and he said, "So basically it's like something that would be on Lifetime." (For those that don't know, Lifetime is known for its overly saturated, drama movies. Blech.) I told him it was quite the opposite! It's refreshing, not immature and overly dramatic! It's a wonderful story of mature adults with actual problems being solved by characters that are not falling apart emotionally. They're strong, smart, and make level headed decisions. But what's so downright lovable is how April and Jimmy's romance begins and plays out.

It's wonderful to read a novel without the teenage anst that seems to be in most books these days. I'm in my late 30's and I really like young adult literature, probably from my teaching days, but I'm tired of reading about 16 year old "oh my gosh my life will be over if you don't love me" romances when they really should be just crushes. Cowboy Singer has no teenage angst! HalleFrickenLuia! I was glued to the book, pulled in by the charming characters and humorous dialogue, and captivated throughout the story by the flirting, developing INCREDIBLE sweet friendship, and unmistakeable attraction between April and Jimmy. Download this book and read it! It's definitely a feel good novel. (I apologize for my rambling. It's 2am.) D PS One night I was up until 5am reading because I couldn't put it down . . . and I was sick and needed the sleep. lol D
I usually am leery of first novels. They try too hard and defeat themselves. I was therefore relieved to read Paula Tiberius' first novel The Cowboy Singer and find a sweet well-worked story, full characters, and satisfying plot.

I love a love story and this delivers. As a baby's involved I guess there's a pun in there somewhere.

James Wick, our manly man with a tender heart and beautiful blue eyes, is delicious. April, our female (and heavily pregnant) protagonist is strong and sexy. Love her grandmother!

I look forward to the next novel. I have already bought this a few times for friends.
